Artist

Bevan McShea

I was born and raised in the Overbrook section of West Philadelphia. I have also lived in New York City, New Jersey, Virginia, and Upper Darby. The areas in which I developed as an artist were culturally diverse which gave me the advantage of meeting many different types of people and acquiring various interests from a young age.

In high school I began to grow in the spiritual faith I received in seventh grade. This also encouraged my creativity. I liked to write stories and I was heavily interested in comic books, horror movies, graffiti, music, and sports. In college my interest in writing music developed. I had a guitar and turntables and I started playing in punk bands and hip hop projects which allowed me to meet more people and see new places. I began to be interested in the dialogue of the world's faiths.

I currently continue to create art and music, hoping that my reflection and expression will serve as a positive influence to others. I write and perform spoken word poetry, play music, paint, DJ, and teach art in the Cheltenham School District. I live in the city of my birth, Philadelphia, and travel to other cities frequently. The cities of the world inspire me by their beauty, color, people, and culture. I am very close to my family and friends, and have been greatly blessed. I believe that everyone should express their vision through the prism of the creative arts, through which positive ideas can be taught and shared.
